Creating an image for social media in Illustrator

As an Accidental Designer, one of the tasks that's likely to be on your to do list is to improve the look of your social media posts. When you look at an image like the one below it can be really difficult to have any idea where to start. You should know enough now to recognise that this image is made of vector graphics, probably using Illustrator, but still, where would you start?

This is an exclusive video for subscribers to our Accidental Designer 10 day email course. If you're not subscribed, you can enroll for free here. In the final video of the course we're going to look at how to create a png graphic that's correctly sized for Instagram. All created from scratch in Illustrator. This video is over 15 minutes long, because there is a lot to cover, including:

  • How to work out the correct size for a graphic for a specific social media platform
  • How to create a specifically sized graphic from scratch in Illustrator
  • How to use Illustrator's grid
  • How to use Illustrator's Pen, Type and Selection tools
  • How to create shapes such as rectangles, circles and polygons
  • How to transform and align objects
