What Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator do (well)
If you're primarily thinking of creating images for social media, as well as using free tools like Canva, you could use InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop. The latest versions of all of those programs allow you to create templates with multiple sized pages or artboards for all the social media sizes you could wish for. All of them allow you to work with text, photographs and vector graphics. But just because they can all do all of those things, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are the same.
This six minute video shows you the things that each program does really well that the other programs don't. For example, Photoshop is the only program that allows you to retouch photographs, InDesign is fantastic at creating montages, and Illustrator allows you to create patterns with ease. Hopefully by the end of it you'll have a really good idea which combination of these programs should offer you the tools you need.
